We Are All Antifa
Some asshole held a Nazi rally in Madison Square Garden. Just like they did in 1939.
Washingtonians! Gen Z’ers! Ambivalent persons when it comes to voting! You can register to vote in the state of Washington all the way up to 8pm on Election Night.
8pm. Tuesday. November 5th.
The catch? You have to do it in person at your county election office. (Link provided.)
Personally, I’d do it sooner than that, but for those great procrastinators out there…
Today (Monday, October 28th) is the last day to do it online.
What do I have to say to spur you to participate in a democracy that may be on oxygen?
Did you know in Odessa, Texas, you can sue someone — for no less than $10,000 — for using restrooms that don’t match the sex they were assigned at birth? You can even sue them if they’ve had their birth certificates officially updated.
Odessans who concocted this law and anyone who sues for 10 grand would be right at home in 1930s Germany.
Did you know that Idaho has a near-total ban on abortion? The Supreme Court has ruled to allow emergency abortions for the time being. In addition, they’re attempting to ban “medical abortions” through the use of mifespristone. Meaning — one of these days — you may not be able to count on over-the-counter prescriptions.
As I have mentioned before, words matter, and the abortion banning laws in 26 states — at minimum — muddy the waters when it comes to women’s health care. Some of you may not be aware of what an ectopic pregnancy is. Miscarriages and ectopic pregnancies don’t pop up in every day conversations for a reason.
They’re emotionally painful to speak of.
This is why you cannot leave men to make laws unless they’re men who don’t mind being educated about the many things they have no fucking clue about.
Ectopic pregnancies occur when a fertilized egg implants itself outside of the uterus. From the get-go, it is NOT a viable pregnancy. And — no — the fertilized egg cannot be re-implanted surgically. It is medically impossible. 1 in 50 pregnancies are ectopic pregnancies. Ectopic pregnancies are life-threatening. Every single time.
Therefore, by my poor math, 2% of all pregnancies must be aborted.
You may think you don’t know of anyone who had an ectopic pregnancy, but I’ll bet your bottom dollar, you do. (It would be similar to my bout with Bell’s palsy. Once I mentioned it, having never heard of it prior to my being afflicted, I learned that plenty of people in my orbit were familiar with it. Some had suffered through it themselves, many knew of others who had to deal with it.)
Here’s the problem with these state’s poorly written abortion bans in the eyes of one MD:
Vineeta Gupta, MD, a maternal and child health physician and international human rights lawyer, says the vague and unclear language in anti-abortion bills regarding ectopic pregnancies creates fear, stigma, confusion, and added expenses, all of which increase barriers to care.
“What they are doing with reproductive health and abortion laws is creating all those four barriers to the highest degree,” Gupta said.
Idahoans championing their draconian abortion laws would feel right at home in Bavaria pre-Hitler.
Did you know the racist basis for the 2020 Stop the Steal movement?
Funny how the counties the GOP targeted post-election were the largest blocs of Black voters in the nation — cities like Detroit, Cleveland, Atlanta.
Funny how the poll workers singled out for voting skullduggery in Georgia were Black.
Funny how — in states like Texas — a dearth of ballot boxes regularly occurs in predominantly Black districts. I’m sure it’s no different across the board in red states.
Throughout the South, Black voters are forced to stand for hours in lines due to another dearth (this time of voting machines and voting locations) while, in some of those states like Georgia, laws have been drafted to prevent people from providing food and water to those courageous citizens. Those laws have been dressed up to sound ‘sensical’ but…
…meanwhile, there ARE laws on the books that preclude multi-billionaires from handing out million dollar checks to get people to register to vote, but not if the criminal doing the law-breaking has more money than most of the governments on the African continent and whose hand has been in the U.S. Government’s cookie jar for two decades.
Those who stand in the way of the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act of 2023 would find themselves at home in Nazi Germany.
To capsulate:
Fascism is for the few.
Democracy is for the many.
If you want to fight fascism, do it now by voting rather than waiting for it to go away which is what they tried in the 1930s and 1940s and we saw how that played out.
Billionaires seek to control us and the government.
Fascism equals control and fascists are extraordinarily shameless at “gaslighting” their fellow citizens to believe nonsensical things. Like Vice President Harris is the fascist, not their orange-slathered, obese and elderly Adonis who has promised to be a dictator on Day One.
The final week before the election will include more gaslighting from the party of MAGA — which really ought to be MAWA (Make America White Again) watch out Ye! — than the world has ever seen.
Buckle up butter cups and VOTE! (Register if you haven’t. There’s still time.)
Not quite as har-har good as Washington’s Dream 1, but pretty darn funny. Enjoy!
Also, this looks scarily interesting.
Heavy.
While they’re on my mind, I highly recommend the series Loudermilk, the movie Rez Ball and the book Remarkably Bright Creatures.
